I got this autograph in Detroit. Easter Weekend 1995. This is actually the album liner from "VOA". I still have the Sharpie he used to sign it!

Here's a Mini-Biography.
Sammy Hagar was born on October 13, 1947, in Monterey, California, the youngest of four children. His father was a bantamweight boxing champ the year he was born. Hagar spent most of his childhood in Fontana, California, just east of Los Angeles.
At the age of 18, he learned to play guitar, and began his long career in music. Hagar performed in nightclubs in San Bernardino, California, before moving to San Francisco in the early 1970s.
Hagar started singing for the band Montrose in the summer of 1973. Montrose, Hagar, bassist Bill Church and drummer Denny Carmassi released their self-titled debut on Warner Bros. Records. The LP included long-lasting tracks such as "Rock Candy" and "Bad Motor Scooter".
In 1976, Hagar released his first solo album called Nine on a Ten Scale on Capitol Records. He released his next effort, Sammy Hagar -- also known as "The Red Album" -- in January of the following year, which included the songs "Red," "Crusin' & Boozin'," and "Rock N' Roll Weekend." Then in October of 1977, his next release was Musical Chairs.
Early in his career, Hagar toured with popular rock bands such as Kiss and Boston. In 1978, he won the Bay Area Music Award for "Musician of the Year" in San Francisco, California.
In 1981, drummer David Lauser joined Hagar's band, and the group began recording Standing Hampton for Hagar's new record label, Geffen Records. The record escalated Hagar's popularity with "I'll Fall in Love Again," "There's Only One Way to Rock," and "Heavy Metal."
In 1984, he teamed up with Journey guitarist Neal Schon, bassist Kenny Aaronson, and drummer Michael Shrieve to form HSAS.
Sparked the by the popularity of the hit single "I Can't Drive 55," in 1985, VOA reached platinum within the year. After more than ten years on his own, Sammy Hagar had begun to truly make his mark in rock n' roll.
Then, one day in 1985, Hagar's auto mechanic, Claudio Zampolli, was doing some work on Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen's Lamborghini. Van Halen was looking for a new lead singer to replace David Lee Roth.
Zampolli suggested Eddie Van Halen call Sammy Hagar, which he did, right from the mechanic's shop. "I had a gut feeling that it was going to happen," Hagar recalled to David Fricke in Rolling Stone. "I told Betsy, my wife, 'These guys are going to hit on me to join this band.' When Eddie called, I got butterflies in my stomach the second he said, 'hi.'"
In 1986, Van Halen released 5150 with Hagar center stage. The album became Van Halen's first number one album and the new configuration sold out every concert on the tour. Hagar split from Van Halen. According to the band, Hagar wanted to be a solo artist. However, Hagar insisted that he was fired. "I can say it was 10 of the greatest years of my life. One miserable year," Hagar told Peter Tilden in Live. "I'm more disappointed in how it ended than anything else."
More to come......

Montrose - 1973

Montrose, produced by Ted Templeman and released in 1973, was Montrose's debut album. It featured then little known Sammy Hagar on vocals.
While considered a classic by many hard rock fans, tracks from the album have received scant airplay on the radio with "Bad Motor Scooter" being the only possible exception. Without proper support from the record label Montrose eventually went under. But the album has collected quite a following over the years and eventually went platinum.
Van Halen had used this album as a blueprint for their own debut and there are some similarities in the sound of the Montrose album to early Van Halen.
Ronnie Montrose mainly used a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Bandmaster and a Big Muff to record the Montrose album. Eddie Van Halen himself considered Ronnie Montrose to be an influence and "Make It Last" was covered by Van Halen in their early club concerts and is available on Van Halen bootlegs, and "Rock Candy" was rehearsed during the sessions for Van Halen's debut album.
The album was voted as the 4th best Metal Album of All Time by Kerrang! Magazine in 1989. Iron Maiden has also done a cover from this album. "Space Station #5" has been released as a B-Side from their single "Be Quick or Be Dead" from 1992. Punk band Stiff Little Fingers used the riff from the "Space Station #5" for their single "Suspect Device" in 1978.
Track listing from Wiki:- "Rock the Nation" (Ronnie Montrose) - 3:03
- "Bad Motor Scooter" (Sammy Hagar)- 3:41
- "Space Station #5" (Hagar, Montrose) - 5:18
- "I Don't Want It" (Hagar, Montrose)- 2:58
- "Good Rockin' Tonight" (Roy Brown) - 2:59
- "Rock Candy" (Denny Carmassi, Bill Church, Hagar, Montrose)- 5:05
- "One Thing on My Mind" (Hagar, Montrose, Sanchez) - 3:41
- "Make It Last" (Hagar) - 5:31

Paper Money - 1974

Paper Money is the second album by the band Montrose. It was released in 1974 and was the last album to feature Sammy Hagar as lead vocalist. Ronnie Montrose sang lead vocals on "We're Going Home". Original bassist Bill Church left the band before this album was recorded and was replaced by Alan Fitzgerald. Paper Money shows Montrose toning down the more metallic elements of its sound and pursuing a more commercial direction with "I Got The Fire" being the only track that matches the intensity of the debut album. Although the liner notes for the CD edition of Paper Money said that Ronnie was offered the lead guitar slot for Mott the Hoople when he left the Edgar Winter Group, Ronnie says that this never happened and was just a rumor. "I Got the Fire" was later covered by Iron Maiden and Axe
Track listing from Wiki:- "Underground" (I. Rappaport) 3:33 - Chunky, Novi & Ernie Cover
- "Connection" (Mick Jagger, Keith Richards) 5:42 - Rolling Stones Cover
- "The Dreamer" (Sammy Hagar, Ronnie Montrose) 4:05
- "Starliner" (Montrose) 3:36
- "I Got the Fire" (Montrose) 3:06
- "Spaceage Sacrifice" (Hagar, Montrose) 4:55
- "We're Going Home" (Montrose) 4:52
- "Paper Money" (Hagar, Montrose) 5:01

Nine on a Ten Scale - 1976
"Keep On Rockin'", a Hagar original, was covered by Bette Midler on the classic soundtrack to The Rose- albeit in a vastly different version. The track penned by Van Morrison, "Flamingos Fly", was not released by Morrison until after this release. Morrison included his version of the track on the 1977 released, A Period of Transition. The track penned by Fleetwood Mac alumnus Bob Welch, "China", was not released by Welch until after this release. Welch included his version of the track on the 1979 album Three Hearts. "Young Girl Blues" is a Donovan cover. A demo version of "Rock 'n' Roll Romeo" was released as "Thinking of You" on The Essential Red Collection in 2004.

Red - Self Titled - 1977
Sammy Hagar is Hagar's second solo album, released in 1977. It is also often referred to as The Red Album, as it features Sammy's first anthem, "Red", which is also the basis for his nickname "The Red Rocker". The distinctive cover image was shot in Stockwell Road, London, SW9 in the midst of the rows of red Pride & Clark auto shops. These red-painted buildings are also seen in the 1966 film Blowup.
The album features producer/musician Scott Mathews (Bonnie Riatt, Keith Richards, Elvis Costello, Brian Wilson) on drums and guitarist David Lewark, who also played with Eddie Money.

Musical Chairs - 1977

One of Sammy Hagar's rawest recordings, Musical Chairs features some guitars that are a treat for listeners fond of the much tougher, uncompromising music that Hagar used throughout the '70s to build one of the largest followings for an American hard rock solo artist.
With a strong backing lineup that included former Montrose alum Denny Carmassi (drums), Bill Church (bass), and Alan Fitzgerald (keys), Hagar's music comes off lean and mean.
Thanks especially to Hagar himself and longtime musical associate Gary Pihl, the riffing on Musical Chairs separates the recording from many hard rock issues of the day. Aggressive numbers like "Turn up the Music" and "Straight From the Hip Kid" do the most sonic damage on this classic red-rocker offering.
When Hagar tries to deal with broader lyrical material, as on "Crack in the World," he exposes what would later become a bit of an Achilles heal. While not as bad as the occasionally awkward, jingo-istic, or just plain goofy quasi-political commentary featured most prominently on some of the singer's '80s recordings, "Crack in the World" demonstrates Hagar's tendency to reach for lyrical concepts that extend beyond his good-time rock specialty. Fortunately, Hagar sticks to the formula during most of Musical Chairs, making it an early career highlight for the singer/guitarist. ~ Vincent Jeffries
